We just got back from an a-maaazing vacation. There were no beaches, no airplanes, no giant mouse theme parks... just the Midwest, our minivan, small plastic building bricks, and wonderful friends. Friday afternoon we started our journey, equipped with a portable DVD player to make the long trip more bearable for some wiggly little bodies. We spent Friday night in Hays, Kansas. The next day we drove the rest of the way to Broken Arrow, OK where we were welcomed by the wonderful Knudsen family.
*Update: Since I first posted this, we have realized that an event not originally mentioned has made an indelible imprint on the minds of our children. On our way to Broken Arrow, while we were still in Nowhere, Kansas (off I-70 somewhere before Salina), there had been no gas station for many miles and our tank hit empty. We exited the freeway and pulled into the parking lot of an abandoned gas station where Justin was going to call AAA to have them come rescue us. Incredibly, a Highway Patrol car pulled up just minutes after we parked and the officer asked if we needed help. Did someone say miracle? He gave us some fuel and we were able to make it to a gas station to fill up. Justin is quick to inform that this was the first time this had ever happened to him, but now, whenever we are driving and the car slows down or comes to a stop, Benjy asks, "Did we run out of gas?"

Bethany is my college roomie and lifelong friend. We hadn't seen each other in person since we all moved away from Utah many years ago. There was much to catch up on.
Our kids became fast friends. Exercise balls and trampolines are a great ice breaker.
We spent two and a half wonderful days with our friends. Some favorite memories from our trip:
Bethany's a-MAZing paninis
A girls' afternoon of pedicures and pampering
Taking the Bluebell Ice Cream factory tour
Kids rolling on exercise balls on the trampoline
Looking at old photos from college
Talking about memories from college
Staying up so late each night it's like we were in college
Bethany and I doing each other's finger nails
Kids coloring their hands with markers
Little Caesars in the park
Birthday dinner with Bethany and Shelton, and cheesecake for dessert
